Council Rates in North SydneyRates are calculated on the basis of the valuations supplied by the Valuer General's Department. North Sydney has one of the lowest average residential rates in Sydney. The minimum rate in 2008-2009 was $383 and the average under $450. Domestic waste management charges are also levied and an environmental levy and an infrastructure levy - these are payable with rates. When are Rates Due?Rates paid by property owners in the North Sydney Council area are charged on an annual basis. Rate notices are sent out in July each year and may be paid in full by the due date or in instalments. Instalment notices are sent out on a quarterly basis in October, January and April. Should payment not be received for an instalment by the relevant due date, interest will accrue on a daily basis.
