Full-text Online Databases

  • The following databases, which are international in scope, are available for use by Stanton Library members. You will need your library card number to access the databases.
  • They provide a wealth of articles, abstracts from journals, newspapers, news wires, books, pamphlets and more. (We will add further databases for external access in the near future.)

ABI Inform: Provides abstracts and fulltext of articles from international professional publications, academic journals, and trade magazines. Particularly good for international articles on business and management.

Academic Research Library: Search for coverage of a broad range of subjects including arts, business, children, education, general interest, health, humanities, international, law, military, multicultural, psychology, sciences, social sciences, and women's interests.

ARCH - Australian Architecture database: ARCH is a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts articles from material held by the library, from 1980 onwards.

Australian Bureau of Statistics: This site gives you access to ABS statistical products online.

Australia New Zealand Reference Centre: The Australia/NZ Reference Centre combines Australia and New Zealand specific magazines, newspapers & newswires, reference books, and company information to create the largest collection of regional full text content available to schools, public libraries, and academic institutions. This database provides local perspectives on current events, business, sports, and many other subjects. Australia/NZ Reference Centre also contains international magazines, reference books, newspapers & newswires.

Business Source Elite: Business Source Elite provides full coverage for nearly 1100 business periodicals ranging from general magazines to trade publications and top management journals. Business Source Elite contains expanded PDF backfiles for 150 titles (back to 1985 or the first issue published for that journal).

Computer Source: Computer Source features more than 300 full text periodicals covering topics such computers, telecommunications, electronics and the Internet. Computer Source provides a balance of full text technical journals and full text consumer computer titles.

Consumer Health Complete: Full text articles covering all areas of health and wellness from mainstream medicine to many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated medicine.

Encyclopedia Britannica Online database
Encyclopeadia Britannica Online: Search the full Encyclopędia Britannica, 150 Journals and Magazines and links to over 200,000 sites, reviewed by Britannica.

Electric Library Australasia: An online database which includes full-text of the News Limited newspapers. It also gives access to many journals and newspapers around the world, maps, encyclopaedias and reference books.

Factiva: Factiva is a powerful web-based service for researching and monitoring news and business information. Only available in the library.

Green file: Topics covered include global climate change, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more.

Health & Wellness Resource Center: An online collection of resources and information on a wide variety of health and health-related topics and alternative or complementary treatments.

The Heritage Databases: Face of North Sydney, the Public Art Register, Naming North Sydney (street names and their origins) , the Mosman Daily Index, and the Plaque Register.

History Reference Center: a comprehensive full text history reference database that covers both U.S. and world history. Read historical documents and articles from reference books, history magazines, journals, and newspapers. Check out the timelines, biographies, and maps and photos for an even better understanding of historical events.

History Resource Center: This database provides social and political history worldwide, with topics and themes studied at university and high school level. It includes books, encyclopedias, journals and original documents.

Kompass Database: Kompass provides product, contact and other information for 1.8 million companies worldwide. Each company is individually checked by the local Kompass publisher, usually once per year. All companies are classified under the Kompass Product Classification - one of the most comprehensive in the world - with more than 53,000 products & services. (Ask at the Information Desk for external access.)

Literary Reference Center: Literary Reference Center provides full text information on authors and their works from a combination of sources including books, encyclopaedias and journals. Includes plot summaries, critical essays, reviews, poems and author biographies.

Literature Resource Center
Literature Resource Center: Online collection of traditional literary reference works, contemporary literacy criticism on authors and their works, current journal articles plus other resources.

MasterFILE Premier: Designed specifically for public libraries, MasterFILE Premier contains full text for nearly 1950 periodicals covering general reference, business, health, education, general science, multicultural issues and much more. MasterFILE Premier now offers PDF backfiles as far back as 1975 for a number of key publications.

NoveList: NoveList is a rich database of fiction titles covering all genres. It has six different user-friendly ways to search a database that is updated monthly. Through the use of subject headings and full text reviews, users can find similar books to their favorites, look up award winning titles, search books by genres and much more.

Science Reference Center: Full text for 640 science encyclopaedias, reference books, periodicals.

Science Resource Center
Science Resource Center: Science Resource Center is an in-depth, curriculum-oriented science database that provides a one-stop resource for all science-related research needs.

Standards Australia:  A comprehensive online collection of International and Australian standards, many with full text coverage.

World Book Online
World Book Online: Articles from The World Book Encyclopedia. Related articles from major newspapers and magazines. Extensive graphic and multimedia enhancements, including photographs, maps, illustrations, tables, animations, and audio/video clips. Special Reports that broaden and deepen coverage for selected topics. Back in Time, a captivating, you-are-there chronicle of events from the World Book Year Book that begins in 1922. Links to external Web sites specially selected by World Book editors.
