Eclectic!
21 November 2011 to 8 April 2012
Objects from the Don Bank Museum Collection
Don Bank Museum opened in 1981, as the first local history museum in North Sydney. The house is the oldest timber building in the area, dating back at least to the 1840s. It was saved from potential redevelopment and restored by North Sydney Council in 1977.
Around this time, the museum attracted a large number of donations. These ranged from domestic items such as kitchen utensils, to an extraordinary array of textiles and clothing.
This exhibition features some of the highlights of this fascinating and eclectic collection. It is both a celebration of Don Bank Museum's thirtieth anniversary and an exploration of the lives of local people through objects - 'material culture' - from the late 1800s and early 1900s.
