New Canteen for Tunks Park
Visitors to Tunks Park, in Cammeray, will enjoy a brand new canteen, thanks largely to a grant won by North Sydney Council.
Council has won a $25,000 grant from the NSW Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation, to be used to replace the existing dilapidated timber canteen. The building will include a new toilet and storage rooms at the back for grounds equipment.
North Sydney Mayor Genia McCaffery said the new canteen would be a wonderful addition to the park facilities. "I'm sure a brand new canteen will draw more people than ever to our beautiful park."
And players and spectators alike will benefit from a new, ramped pathway to the playing field level of Primrose Park, Cremorne, again thanks to a $10,000 grant also from the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation.
Cr McCaffery said all three existing main entry points to the park involved uneven surfaces. "This new path will make it much safer and easier for everyone but particularly those in wheelchairs, or those who have limited mobility, to come to the park."
The new pathway is planned to run from the secondary parking area in Denos Lane. Cr McCaffery said this was the shortest, least steep entry point to the park.
"It also means that people entering the park here are closest to public amenities and the barbequeue facility that we put in last year."
She said feedback from people, when Council provided an accessible unisex toilet facility in the change room at the park a few years ago, suggested a need for a safer and ramped pathway.
"I'm delighted that this grant will enable us to make Primrose Park a more inclusive place for sports participants and spectators."
