You may have questions regarding the recruitment process, especially if you haven't applied for a position within Local Government or a Council before.

How should I write my application?

  • Send us an up-to-date resume/CV.
  • Provide a concise (2 or 3 page) letter addressing each of the essential and desirable selection criteria that are documented at the end of each position description. It is important that you do this.
  • Clearly identify the Position Title and Position Number as quoted in the advertisement.
  • Limit your application to approximately 10 pages - DO NOT send original documents as we may not be able to return them.

Ensure that attachments are in either Word or Adobe Acrobat PDF format since supporting documentation which has been scanned into jpeg, gif or other picture-based formats cannot be accessed.

Will late applications be accepted?

The closing date appears in each advertisement and late applications will be considered up to the first mail received after the closing date. Late applications will not be considered in the current round of interviews.  If after conducting interviews, the position is not filled, then any late applications will be considered.

What should I wear to the interview?

Depending on the position, we suggest business attire or smart casual attire.

How long will the process take?

It depends on the role, how many people apply and how many are shortlisted. Usually, decisions regarding a preferred candidate are made within a couple of weeks of interview, but this is a case by case scenario. We aim to provide all candidates with expected time frames at the interview stage.

Who will see my application? Is it confidential?

Your application will be accessed by North Sydney Council employees on a need-to-know basis only.
