Former BP Site Parkland Opened
The former BP site Parklands map (208KB)
The new parkland on the former BP industrial site on the Waverton Peninsula was formally opened for public recreational use on Saturday 12 March, 2005.
Works included new pathways, access stairs and lookout platforms, fences and handrails, seating and extensive planting of locally native species. The design incorporates remnants of the site's industrial heritage and includes wetland areas linked to the original drainage system.
Mayor Genia McCaffery and the Hon. Tom Uren and Mr Bruce Burns launched the opening ceremony at the site.
Construction took several months to complete and cost approximately $3 million. The project was jointly funded by Council and the NSW State Government and was the result of the NSW Government's decision in 1997 to transform Waverton's three ex-industrial sites on Waverton Peninsula into public open space: these were the Caltex, Coal Loader and BP sites.
