Public Art @ ArkFour major works of public art are an important component of Investa's Ark development at North Sydney. Two works of great singularity and presence - a ceiling painting by Freddie Timms and a sculpture by Hany Armanious in collaboration with Mary Teague - were devised especially for Ark to anchor the public foyer space. Added to these are works by Rocket Mattler and Simon Grimes which evoke the actual appearance and ambience of the North Sydney Telephone Exchange that inhabited the Mount Street site for 50 years before the advent of Ark. Investa's vision to commission the art early in the process has ensured a seamless integration of art, the precinct, and architecture. In consultation with architects Rice Daubney and art advisor Barbara Flynn, four of Australia's leading artists have been selected to realise works of a standard unprecedented in the context of a North Sydney development to date, representing a new phase in the evolution of North Sydney. Catalogue A catalogue can now be viewed at Council's Customer Service Centre, 200 Miller Street, North Sydney between the hours of 8.30am-5.30pm Monday- Friday; and at Stanton Library during opening hours. Practical completion of Ark is expected to be in March 2010.
