Food Business Inspections

North Sydney Council has placed retail food businesses into three inspection-frequency levels, based on guidelines issued by the NSW Food Authority. These frequencies are as follows:

P4     Incident only
P3     Minimum 1 inspection per year
P1-P2 Minimum 1-2 inspections per year

The inspection frequency is assessed in conjunction with performance history:

  • Food businesses that have undergone three (3) consecutive inspections with no critical food safety breaches identified may have their inspection frequency reduced.
  • Food businesses that are found to have critical food safety breaches identified may have their inspection frequency increased.

Inspection frequencies are reviewed after each food premises inspection. As a guide the following table shows examples of the types of premises that fall into each category P1, P2, P3 and P4.
