Resident Parking

To provide equitable access to on-street parking in congested areas, Council operates a resident parking scheme.

The scheme is based on the RMS's guidelines for resident parking, which ensures that the number of permits issued does not exceed the number of resident parking spaces available.

There are three (3) parking zones within the North Sydney Council area and the number of permits you are entitled to will vary according to what zone you live in.

View the map showing the Parking Zones A, B, and C.

View the map showing the Commercial, Mixed Use and Residential D Neighbourhood Business Zones (and add the Land Zoning overlay).

The entitlements for each zone have been determined by the number of properties and the number of on-street parking spaces available within the zone.

The Resident Parking Permit entitlements, as adopted by Council on the 28 November 2005 are summarised below:

*Maximum Entitlement: is reduced by the number of off-street parking spaces within the property, for example, if the maximum entitlement is 2 and there is 1 parking space on the property then the entitlement is reduced to 1 resident parking permit. To receive your maximum entitlement you must present copies of the registration papers for each vehicle registered at that address.

Resident Parking Permits exempt holders' vehicles from time limits and/or meter parking fees for the area indicated on the permit.

  • They are renewable in March each year for a period of one year.
  • Residents living at the same dwelling may share a Resident Parking Permit provided all eligibility requirements are met.
  • The permit may be transferred between vehicles when required.
  • Only one vehicle at a time may use the permit and must park in the nominated Resident Parking Zone.

Please note that further conditions apply. Please read the Parking Permit Policy. To check how the policy applies to your property, phone the Customer Service Centre on 02 9936 8100 or find more information on the Policy Manual.
