Public Domain Upgrades on Military Road
Public domain upgrades will occur on Military Road between Young Street and Waters Street (north side of Military Road) and May Gibbs Plaza and Rangers Road (on the south side). The upgrade works are funded by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and includes:
- Paving upgrade
- More garden beds
- More seats and bins
- More bicycle parking
At the May 2019 Council meeting Council voted unanimously to award the public domain upgrade works on Military Road in Neutral Bay and Cremorne to the highest ranked tenderer.
The contractor for these works is CA&I Pty Ltd, and late June/early July they issued the below notice of works letter.
Where are the works commencing?
The works will be undertaken in several stages with the first stage being the north side footpath of Military Road Neutral Bay, between Young Street and Wycombe Road (Zone 1A).
The works between Young Street and Wycombe Road (Zone 1A) are currently underway (July 2019), and CA&I are preparing to commence works in the next two zones.
The works for the next two of the stages (Zone 6 & 7) is the south side footpath of Military Road Neutral Bay, between Rangers Rd and May Gibbs Place (Zone 7 & 6).
When will the works take place?
Works in Zone 1A are underway, commencing on Sunday 14 July 2019 for a duration of 6 weeks.
Works in Zone 6 and 7 will commence Monday 29 July 2019 for a duration of 8 weeks.
Due to the high traffic volumes on Military Road and high pedestrian usage of this footpath during the day time, the Transport Management Centre requires this works to be undertaken at out of hours to ensure the safety of workers, pedestrians and motorists, and to minimize impacts to traffic.
Works will take place 9pm to 5am with saw cutting and jack hammering ceasing at 12am.
What disruption is expected?
Council will be working closely with CA&I to minimise disruption to residents and businesses. We will endeavor to provide access to shops and businesses at all times, however, there will be some unavoidable disruptions to access, parking and pedestrian traffic. We will also endeavor to minimize the noise from our works, but some construction activities will generate unavoidable noise.
A work compound has be set up within the Grosvenor Lane carpark. The site compound has taken 6 car parking spots and 1 motorcycle spot.
The close proximity to the works, adjacent loading zone for taking deliveries and greater distances to residential premises at this location are the reasons for choosing this location over others. In addition we have reduced the compound footprint space by securing a lease on an office in Waters Rd.
Why are the works taking place?
The works are part of Council’s ongoing efforts to make the shopping and commercial strip more appealing as a shopping destination for residents and visitors.

Further notifications will be issued as works commence in other stages in Neutral Bay and Cremorne.
All reasonable efforts will be made to complete the works on schedule, subject to weather and ground conditions. We will notify if there are significant changes to the program.
Council and CA&I appreciate your cooperation and understanding, and apologies in advance for any inconvenience that these necessary works may cause.
