Building and Environmental Compliance
Council Officers carry out a broad range of enforcement activities across different sections of the organisation.
Within the health and environmental jurisdiction these enforcement activities may involve building compliance, environmental health, environmental protection and food issues.
Within the context of environmental health and protection, Council has a minimal tolerance approach to unlawful activities or breaches of the various Acts or Regulations for which it is responsible. The primary aim of the enforcement action is to protect the amenity of the area by ensuring that all relevant health, safety and environmental matters meet appropriate standards.
The regulatory action undertaken by Council will vary depending on the circumstances, however the action may include, but is not limited to, the service of a Notice or Order or Penalty Infringement Notice or the instigation of legal action in either the Local Court or the Land & Environment Court.
