Plastic Free July

Join millions of people reducing their plastic waste...

Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities, and reduce our burden on the planet.

Will you be part of Plastic Free July and choose to refuse single-use plastics?

Here are some simple actions you can take today to start:

  1. Sign up to the challenge: www.plasticfreejuly.org/take-the-challenge

  2. Follow The Coal Loader on Facebook and Instagram for lots of practical tips.

  3. Head to the Plastic-Free North Sydney Council page for info, printables, business links and more.

  4. Start early, before July if you can, and make an simple list of the plastic that ends up in your recycling or bin. This will help you identify the biggest areas for change.

  5. Take a look at what businesses around you support going plastic free (allow you to bring your own take-away container or give discounts for keep-cup use etc).

  6. Keep an eye on the Green Events and The Coal Loader Events pages for Plastic-Free July workshops and info.

  7. There is usually no need to buy new items to help you go plastic-free, look around at what you already have first and save yourself some money! You can find more tips on the Bye Bye Plastic page.

  8. Share your wins with others, it will keep you motivated and motivate others too!

  9. Don't get disheartened if you are not perfect, “We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.” Anne Marie Bonneau

  10. Decide on the actions you can take a way from this challenge, what plastic do you not need to buy in the future? There are lots of products, home-recipes, and tricks that can save you money, produce a better outcome, or better support sustainable businesses and this challenge is a way to break us out of our routines and explore new solutions.

Good luck!
