Local amateur artists will be displaying their sketchbooks, inspired by The Coal Loader and it’s surrounds, in a free pop-up exhibition from 24 September to 1 October, 10am to 4pm, Monday-Saturday. For details or to submit your own works visit the website or join the Facebook group.
What is The Coal Loader Sketchbook Challenge?
Join like-minded amateurs in sketching The Coal Loader over the course of this challenge.
While we will supply expert guidance from local artists, you supply the time and your unique take on what you see and feel about the space.
All you need to take part is a concertina/accordion sketchbook and some time to sketch.
The challenge is open to all abilities - there is no wrong way to complete your sketchbook!
All participants are invited to join and post in the official Facebook group.
If posting works on your own Instagram page please use the hashtag: #CoalLoaderArt
All registered participants will be invited to exhibit at the Coal Loader from 24 September.
Classes are scheduled periodically by our in-house team and artists and will appear in on our Humanitix page when available to book.
You can also join the group on Facebook to be notified of new classes.
How do I take part?
All you need to do is sketch The Coal Loader any way you want! We are interested in everyone's unique take on the space but you can head to the official Facebook page for examples of the group's work so far. Please also post online and help encourage others on their journey too!
Then from 24 September to 1 October we will be hosting a small show to display everyone's work at The Coal Loader.
Join - the mailing list to find out more.
You can participate with just a small number of your favourite materials such as pencils or charcoal, ink or gouache etc. You certainly don't need anything fancy, expensive or new, just what you may already have to hand.
Ideally you will have (or make) a concertina/accordion sketchbook so that your work can be easily displayed during the exhibition without people needing to pick your sketchbook up.
If visiting The Coal Loader to sketch please make sure that you adhere to the current NSW Health regulations bring a charged smartphone to check into the NSW COVID-safe app and to take some reference material photos.
To help keep the exercise environmentally friendly, please think about what materials you choose to bring use and their impact on the environment.
