North Sydney Heritage Centre is at Stanton Library on Level 1, 234 Miller St, North Sydney or 9936 8438. The Heritage Centre desk is staffed Monday - Saturday, 1-5pm.

 

Family History

Family History Help Desk - our Heritage Centre hosts a regular free service where staff and volunteers are available to give one-on-one assistance using the heritage resources of the library and the internet. Bring along any information you already have and an idea of what you would like help with. Sessions will be held on the first three Fridays of each month from 10am-12pm. Bookings are essential. Phone 9936 8400 or email library@northsydney.nsw.gov.au

 

The internet offers many resources which you can try before coming to the library. It is well worth your time to do as much research on your family tree prior to coming to Stanton Library. There are many free websites as well as those only available in the library:

You can also access Ancestry.com and Find My Past inside the library from any public terminal. It's free to use, and you can either save documents onto a USB memory stick at no cost, or print at the usual charges. To print, you just need your Stanton Library card or a copy card available to purchase at the Information Desk.

Stanton Library has a lot of historical material on people and the local places in which they lived. Search the Heritage Databases and the Stanton Library catalogue.

Stanton Library also has micro-format and hard-copy materials. Among these are Sands Directory, Street Files, Telephone Directories and Council Minute Books. Some are accessed via appointment only, but all are available for viewing here in the North Sydney Heritage Centre.

Heritage Websites

Where can I get a copy of the Heritage Database Sheet for my property in North Sydney?

New South Wales Heritage Office allows you to search the State Heritage Register which contains the Heritage Database sheets for North Sydney LGA, as well as links to online lists of practising heritage architects and planners.
