Engage: Engaging minds
We provide resources and opportunities to support reading and learning including programs and activities to open minds, encourage curiosity and facilitate the sharing of ideas.
Key Achievements for 2015-16:
- We celebrated 25 years of the Writers @ Stanton program with cupcakes and a talk by Thomas Keneally. This year 3900 people attended talks by 49 authors. Our top five talks featured Kerry O’Brien, Hugh Mackay, Sarah Ferguson, Tara Moss and David Marr each attracting a crowd of over 130 people.
6727 children aged 0-5 and their carers attended 306 storytime sessions run by our Children’s Librarians.
807 school aged children attended school holiday activity sessions including craft workshops, theatre performances, dance and film screenings.
An evening Philosophy Discussion Group was offered this year and it proved to be so popular that a second group was created.
12 Issues of the library newsletter Stanton News were distributed in print, and to the 1094 subscribers of our eNews service.
Staff produced a series of 8 reader’s advisory bookmarks, with lists of themed author suggestions and featuring photographic images of the local area.
Thank you for responding to my new book requests so quickly. As a very frequent "user" of Stanton Library can I remark on the excellent customer service I always receive. - Ian
