The Art of Living: Flats and Apartment Buildings in North Sydney, 1908-1958

Join North Sydney Council historian Dr. Ian Hoskins online as he explores the history of some of the first blocks of flats in Sydney, from the construction of Beulah Flats at Kirribilli in 1908, to plans for high-rise buildings at Blues Point.

There was considerable debate over the benefits and drawbacks of this new way of living. Some considered them ‘piggeries’ for the working class. Others thought that well-designed flats represented the best of the ‘art of living’.
