New playground for Forsyth Park

What’s proposed?

To create a brand new public play area on the terraced, elevated lawn area to the west of the Forsyth Park Community Centre incorporating an exciting range of equipment for users of diverse ages and abilities, from toddlers through to teens.

Background

Using Council’s Playgrounds Plan of Management and Playgrounds Methodology documents, Council has identified that there is strong demand for more playground facilities in the Neutral Bay area and Forsyth Park offers an ideal location. The park can be accessed from several different directions and demographics suggest that in addition to the high number of users visiting the park for sporting or childcare reasons, there is a good catchment of users living within the immediate vicinity.

When will this happen?

Community consultation was undertaken in 2016 with an excellent participation rate and strong support for the proposal.

The design was amended to reflect community input and subsequently Council has appointed a playground construction company who intend to commence work in May 2017. The installation is anticipated to take approximately six weeks with completion expected by the end of June, weather permitting.

The new space will:

  • complement the existing location with extensive landscaping and use existing and new trees to provide natural shade

  • encourage active and inclusive play with equipment designed for users of various abilities to play together

  • Cater to a wide age range while subtly separating the age groups

  • provide well-placed seating for easy supervision
