• Find out where energy savings can be made, conduct an energy audit
  • Use ceiling fans instead of air conditioners. Ceiling fans can also circulate warm air in winter.
  • If you must have an air conditioner, consider setting at 23°C or higher is the ideal temperature. Each degree lower can add 10 per cent to the cost!
  • Install blinds or window shades, to block out the heat, especially on the western side of the building.
  • Ventilate your business by installing windows that can be locked in a partially open position.
  • Bring the outdoors in. Potted plants such as ferns help cool the office.
  • Insulate the roof with eco-friendly insulation to prevent heat build-up.
  • Increase natural ventilation by allowing cross breezes from opposing doorways or windows.
  • Consider replacing traditional carpeting with materials such as polished concrete or thermal tiles - cool in summer and warm in winter.
