Looking to keep your kids entertained during the holidays? Bring them to the Coal Loader for these free, fun and educational workshops!

8 April: Talking Trash!

This workshop is for children aged 5 - 12 years

Kids will play guessing games such as ‘What was I before?’ and ‘What do you think I can do with this?’

From packaging made from seaweed to paper made from textile waste, from edible coffee cups to maggots that eat waste, kids will get hands on while they learn about materials and waste!

They will team up and take on 5 sugar cane missions:

1. Grow and harvest sugar cane: Children use hands and feet to play floor projection games

2. Make products containing sugar: Children discover sugar content with a puzzle

3. Make bio plastic Lego pieces: Children create plants with “plants from plants” Lego

4. Make bio energy from sugar cane: Children conduct an energy experiment

5. Use organic waste to feed soil: Children find creatures in the sugar cane mulch

15 April: Solar Car Race 

This workshop is for children aged 9 - 12 years

Come along for a fun Solar Race Car making workshop!

Kids will team up and build their own solar power car, once we have the mechanics down it will be time to put the power of the sun to the test as we race them around the Coal Loader. Get ready, go!

A guardian must accompany each child.

Location: The Genia McCaffery Centre for Sustainability at the Coal Loader, 2 Balls Head Drive Waverton.

Accessibility: All physical abilities are welcome as the site is fully accessible. Please contact our team for any special requirement requests or questions.

Cost: $0 to take part however ONLY book if you can make it.

What to bring: Reusable water bottle, and plastic-free snacks for after the class. Close-toed shoes. Sun and rain protection.

Wet Weather: In the case of wet weather, indoor activities may replace any planned outdoor activities. The class will go ahead in rainy weather.
