Join Dr Fatima El-Assaad as she talks about the microbiome and its importance to maintaining optimal physical health as well as emotional and mental health. Learn what the microbiome is, the role it plays in your mental health, what can go wrong with the microbiome and how to improve your gut microbiome.

In addition, Dr Michelle Fitzmaurice will give an overview of the fascinating research project being done on understanding what is the optimal healthy microbiome.

About the presenter

Dr Fatima El-Assaad is a research scientist and academic who has overseen the sustainable development of the UNSW Microbiome Research Centre (MRC). She leads several experimental, translational, and clinical research studies focusing on reducing disease burden by investigating host-microbe interactions and gut-organ axis in inflammatory conditions.

Dr Michelle Fitzmaurice  is a researcher at UNSW Microbiome Research Centre (MRC). Michelle is a Registered Nutritionist and has a PhD in Biochemistry with a special interest in early biomarkers for diagnosis of disease.  Michelle is currently project manager for the Healthy Optimal Australian Microbiome (HOAM) Study.
