Christmas meets creativity at the Coal Loader Artisans Market

Christmas Artisan Market

Looking for a Christmas market that’s creative and sustainable? The Coal Loader Artisans Market returns on Sunday 7 December for handmade gifts, festive fun, and family activities from 10am to 6pm.

This year’s market will feature more than 130 stalls spread across the Coal Loader’s iconic harbourside site, showcasing artworks, ceramics, jewellery, textiles, children’s design, fashion, eco products, and small-batch food and drinks. Visitors can meet the makers, find unique gifts, and enjoy the creative and relaxed atmosphere of a handmade Christmas market.

North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker said the event is a wonderful way to enjoy the festive season while supporting local makers.

“The Coal Loader Christmas Artisans Market is a great opportunity for families and the community to come together, discover handmade gifts, and enjoy a festive day out in a unique harbourside location.”

Visitors of all ages can join a range of free drop-in activities:

  • Slogue Circles (10am to 1pm) – A youth-led hand-sewing collective offering visible mending, upcycling tips, and creative stitching guidance. Bring clothes that need small repairs or start a new project using provided materials.
  • Retro Typewriter Station (10am to 1pm) – Create personalised Christmas cards or gift tags using vintage typewriters.
  • Don Cape Crew Knot-Tying Workshop (10am to 6pm) – Learn practical knot-making skills from experienced volunteers.
  • Fantasy Art Face Painting (10am to 6pm) – Free festive face painting for children.

The market is proudly single-use plastic-free, with visitors encouraged to bring keep cups, reusable water bottles and cloth bags.

Due to limited parking, attendees are strongly encouraged to walk, cycle or take public transport. Waverton Station is a short six-minute walk from the site.

Accessible via ramp and lift access; some areas have uneven ground.
