North Sydney Council has updated its planning rules to discourage gas connections and appliances in all new residential developments, with the changes taking effect from 1 July 2026.
In accordance with Clause 14(2) of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation, 2021, notice is hereby given of Council’s decision to adopt an amendment to the North Sydney Development Control Plan (NSDCP) 2025.
At its meeting on 23 February 2026, Council resolved to adopt an amendment to the NSDCP 2025 to discourage gas connections and gas appliances in new residential developments for environmental, health, and economic reasons. New provisions have been inserted into Section 10 – Environmental Sustainability of the NSDCP 2025 to discourage the use of gas.
