The Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability will host a Fashion Revolution Clothes Swap this April.
On average, each person in North Sydney generates more than 300 kilograms of waste each year. Council’s long‑term environmental direction recognises that reducing this relies not only on systems and policy, but on everyday choices, including choosing reuse over disposal.
Held as part of Fashion Revolution Week, the free event combines a clothes swap with talks, restyling and mending activities in a relaxed, brunch‑style setting. Attendees are encouraged to bring one to ten high‑quality clothing items they no longer need and exchange them for “new‑to‑you” pieces, helping to reduce textile waste and extend the life of garments.
The morning will also feature an inspiring talk and styling demonstration by Nina Gbor, a sustainable fashion and circular economy expert, who will share practical ideas for dressing stylishly while minimising environmental impact.
The event takes place at the Genia McCaffery Centre at The Coal Loader on Saturday 18 April from 9.30am to 12pm. Registrations are free but essential and clothing quality guidelines apply to ensure a successful swap for everyone.
A youth‑led sewing circle will also run alongside the event, with fashion‑savvy guides on hand to support upcycling garments from the clothes swap or assist with any sewing or textile projects participants wish to bring along.
