Celebrate the arrival of a new baby or grandchild by planting a tree that will grow alongside them through Council's Trees for Newborns program.
Parents and grandparents living in the North Sydney local government area can request a free tree, delivered to their door. It's a lovely way to mark a new arrival and create a living memory the whole family can watch grow.
Choose from a range of tree species available at the time including eucalypts, banksias and jacarandas among others and watch your tree grow alongside your little one.
Every tree comes with a simple planting and watering guide, so it has the best chance of thriving in its new home.
With your help, we can also grow North Sydney’s tree canopy. Since 2008, canopy cover has declined, with the biggest loss on private land. Every tree planted in a backyard makes a real difference.
Trees for Newborns started as a 12-month trial in 2023 and was made permanent in December 2024, when it was also extended to grandparents.
