Help shape the future of the Coal Loader

Coal loader platform 750x550

The Coal Loader is one of North Sydney’s most unique community places, bringing together sustainability, history, education, recreation and environmental care in a stunning harbourside setting.

Now, the community has an opportunity to help shape its next chapter.

North Sydney Council is preparing the first Coal Loader Strategic Management Plan for the 2.8-hectare site on Cammeraygal Country. The Plan will establish a clear vision, priorities and actions to guide how the site is activated, experienced and cared for in the years ahead.

Whether you visit for a workshop, market day, organised excursion, walk, picnic or community event, or simply enjoy a quiet moment overlooking the harbour, we want to hear from you.

Tell us:

  • what you value most about the Coal Loader

  • how you use and experience the site

  • what gets in the way of your enjoyment

  • where improvements could be made

  • what opportunities you see for its future

Your feedback will help inform how the Plan:

  • strengthens Aboriginal cultural values and caring for Country

  • recognises the site’s industrial history and connection to Sydney’s working harbour

  • improves access, inclusion and the community experience

  • supports environmental leadership through events, learning and sustainability programs

  • guides the care of buildings, public spaces and other site assets

  • supports the site’s resilience to a changing climate.

The Strategic Management Plan will not change the Coal Loader’s current land use. Transport for NSW will also remain responsible for the Coal Loader wharf.
