Vantage points

Managed access

This year Council is not ticketing any foreshore reserves. Three will be operating as managed access vantage points. They are:

• Blues Point Reserve (incorporating Henry Lawson Reserve) SITE FULL
• Lavender Bay Parklands (incorporating Watt, Clark and Quibaree Parks) SITE FULL
• Bradfield Park (incorporating Mary Booth Reserve) SITE FULL

Inside a managed access reserve there will be portable toilets, additional water stations and bins, food outlets and first aid. You will be able to go in and out of a vantage point until it reaches capacity, after which the site will be closed.

Please note: residents cannot enter the reserves to watch the 9pm or midnight fireworks if the reserve has reached capacity.

Entry and exit gates to managed access vantage points will be:

• Blues Point Reserve – Blues Point Road (entry and exit)
• Lavender Bay Parklands – Harbourview Crescent (entry) Lavender Crescent (exit)
• Bradfield Park & Mary Booth Reserve – Fitzroy Street (entry) Broughton Street (exit)

All other street and stairway access to these reserves will be closed.

Non-managed access

Other foreshore parks and reserves including Waverton Park, Balls Head Reserve, Kurraba Reserve and Cremorne Point will not have managed access.

These parks will remain open to the public and will have portable toilets and additional bins. Food outlets will be available at Waverton and Cremorne Point.

Adverse weather

If there are bushfire warnings for the Sydney metropolitan area, Balls Head, Berry Island and Badangi Reserves will close to the public. A notice will be placed at the entrance to these reserves, If the weather is warm, please ensure you bring an empty re-usable (not glass) water bottle to fill at a water station so that you remain well hydrated.

All bags will be checked for prohibited items prior to entry.

• Sharp implements eg. knives
• Liquids of any kind in an unsealed container
• Tents
• Pets
• Drones
• Flammables eg gas bottles
• Bikes
• Kites 
• Balloons
• Portable BBQs

Permitted items:

• Picnic bags and food
• Empty re-usable (non-glass) bottles for water
• Small sunshades (must be taken down at dusk)
• Portable chairs (low rise preferred)
• Picnic rugs
• Liquids in sealed containers (non-glass) eg. juice, soft drink

To be as sustainable as possible, we encourage you to use reusable containers, keep rubbish to a minimum and toss all rubbish in the appropriate bins.

Special event clearways

Special event clearways will be in place across the North Sydney local government area.

You must not stop or park in a special event clearway. Fines in excess of $275 apply. If your vehicle is left on a clearway it may be towed to a nearby street.

If your vehicle has been towed, please use Transport for NSW's Find My Car search or call the towing line on 131 700.

Public buses, taxis and other hire vehicles are permitted to stop when dropping off or picking up passengers. Resident parking and disability permits are not valid in a special event clearway. Always check signage before you park.

Road closures

Roads will close progressively across the North Sydney local government area from 30 December.

Roads close at different times – please check the road closure times listed on this page and check the resident brochure for your area.

Residents returning to their property on a closed road will need to show photo ID with proof of address. Pedestrian access to properties will be maintained at all times.

Please note: Police may close the roads at any time for pedestrian safety.

Roads will be re-opened when it is safe to do so, usually between 2am and 3am. Vehicles parked on a closed road will not be able to leave until the road re-opens. Police Officers at road closure points can only re-open a road when instructed to do so by their superiors.
