Bradfield Park & Kirribilli Foreshore Masterplan

Due Completion: 01 January 2020

The need to upgrade the Kirribilli Foreshore is listed as a high priority in the Bradfield Park and Kirribilli Foreshore Masterplan adopted by Council in 1998.

The Masterplan (see Related Documents below) emphasises the regional significance of the foreshore area and the importance of improving pedestrian access along the foreshore.

The first stage of improvement started with Kirribilli foreshore works in 2000. Degraded sea-walls were restored, pedestrian access upgraded, seating was increased, vantage points for harbour events were created, and native vegetation using local species was replanted. Mature Cabbage Tree Palms (livistona australis) were transported to the site by water and transferred to their final locations by a barge-mounted crane. Sandstone gravel and paving was used to create a series of hard wearing terraces which are suitable for a range of passive recreational activities.

The second stage of the foreshore upgrade (May 2006) constructed a new foreshore walkway through Dr Mary Booth Reserve.

Work commenced on Bradfield Park in 2003 with major improvements to the area north of Burton Street. Key sections of Bradfield Park South have also been completed.
