Primrose Park Art & Craft Centre

Primrose Park Art & Craft Centre (PPACCI) is an independent, incorporated organisation supported by North Sydney Council. The Centre comprises community-based art and craft member groups. Activities include regular meetings and practice forums, tutorials, classes, workshops, exhibition open days and special events. All six art groups welcome new members.

The community is encouraged to participate in workshops, courses, attend Open Days, exhibitions and more. News of PPACCI activities are published on North Sydney Council's e-newsletter and local papers.

Current member groups

  • Artists in the Park is a vibrant cooperative painting group meeting on Tuesdays, where experienced artists come together and share ideas on the creative journey to becoming skilled artists. Each term, a professional artist is invited to demonstrate their individual approach to their artwork. The group gains insight into different styles and techniques, from using oils to sketching and multimedia and observing work from start to finish. Each November, the group host an art exhibition in the mezzanine gallery.
  • Basketry NSW Incorporated, a group for basket enthusiasts, makers and collectors based in New South Wales, Australia. Basketry NSW aims to promote appreciation of baskets, keep traditional basketry skills alive, and explore new forms of artistic expression using basket-making techniques. Our members are interested in natural fibres and various other materials and make work ranging from functional vessels to sculptural forms.
  • Primrose Park Art and Craft Centre is the home of the Australian Society of Calligraphers, one of the largest calligraphy groups in Australia. Although based in Sydney, the Society has members from all over Australia and overseas. Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in the art and craft of calligraphy – people from complete beginners to professionals are all welcome.
  • Primrose Paper Arts promotes the making and use of paper for art works. The centre provides one of the few open access hand-papermaking studios in Australia and has a comprehensive range of materials and equipment. PPA holds formal workshops with experienced teachers from around Australia and overseas, collaborative group projects, informal groups, open days and exhibitions.

  • Primrose Park Photography (PPP) celebrates all kinds of photography - from smart phones to digital & analogue: 35mm to large format. A friendly, welcoming and non-competitive club. Expand your creativitive photography in a fun and sociable learning environment. We promote open learning, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
  • Textiles Sydney is a collective that fosters the creation of all things textile. We provide a forum for practitioners to share their knowledge and skill in weekly making sessions, host workshops and talks on a range of textile subjects, and hold an annual exhibition of members’ work. We also facilitate community art projects.

About the craft centre facilities

The Craft Centre facilities include: a kitchenette, craft wet areas, group-related equipment, photography dark room, computer, sound, and projection capabilities.
