Fees and eligibility

  • Not-for-profit organisations
  • Government agencies

Fee structure

Fees for street flag bookings vary depending on the location and whether the applicant is a commercial entity or a not-for-profit/government organisation.

Please refer to the banner pole locations and Council’s current Fees and Charges Schedule before requesting a quote.

Before requesting a quote:

Design and printing guidelines

All banner designs must be approved by Council before production. Submit designs at least 6 weeks prior to installation.

Design requirements

  • Banners should enhance the North Sydney streetscape and promote arts, culture, festivals, sporting events, civic programs, or other public interest activities.

  • Commercial banners must include a community message, sponsorship, or reference to North Sydney. They cannot serve solely as advertising.

  • All banners must be:
    • high-quality and professionally produced
    • hemmed, labelled, and neatly packaged

Logo and sponsorship rules

  • Logos should be maximum 10% of banner area
  • Maximum 3 logos, including Council’s
  • Logos should be placed preferably at the bottom

Printing and design specifications

Please find below design and printing specifications for street flags. Please note: specifications are different depending on location.

Printing specifications

Council is not liable for:

  • Faulty manufacture
  • Delays due to non-compliance with these conditions

Booking process

  • Submit a booking request and pay the application fee
  • Council will:
    • Confirm pole locations and banner quantities
    • Issue a quote (valid for 14 days)
  • Once you receive the quote:
    • Accept the quote in writing
    • Pay the application fee to confirm booking

Booking rules

  • Council bookings take precedence
  • Booking periods:
    • Start Monday, end Sunday
    • Minimum 2 weeks, maximum 6 weeks
    • Special exemptions may be negotiated
  • Bookings can be made up to 6 months in advance

Cancellation policy

  • More than 90 days before hire: Full refund
  • Less than 90 days before hire: No refund
  • Partial cancellations within 90 days: Council retains 5% of cancelled fee or $300, whichever is greater

Design submission and approval

How to Submit Your Design

  • Email your banner design to: banners@northsydney.nsw.gov.au
  • Allow at least 5 business days for Council review and approval

Important notes

  • Submit designs at least 6 weeks before installation
  • Ensure your design meets all guidelines (see Design Guidelines)

Installation and return

Delivery requirements

  • Deliver banners in one shipment, 2 weeks before installation
  • Ensure banners are correctly labelled and neatly packaged
  • Late or incorrect deliveries may incur fees
  • Council may reject banners that do not meet hygiene or packaging standards

Installation and removal

  • May vary by up to 3 business days due to traffic, weather, or volume
  • Installation/removal fees apply (see Fees & Charges)

Post-hire collection

  • Banners must be collected within 2 weeks after hire
  • Uncollected banners will be recycled, and the recycling fee retained
  • Council is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged banners
  • Banners not collected within this period will be recycled

Damaged Banners

  • May be removed, repaired, and reinstalled at the hirer’s expense

Banner ownership and reuse

  • Banners remain the property of the hirer
  • Council encourages reuse if banners are:
    • Clean
    • In good condition
    • Correctly packaged
  • Banners should be used:
    • No more than 3 times
    • For no longer than 6 weeks per use
