Support services for homelessness

If you have concerns about the welfare of a person who may be experiencing homelessness, or if you are experiencing homelessness, please complete a form by clicking the ‘Homeless Support request’ button below. Your submission will be automatically directed to the relevant North Sydney Council staff and support services.

Alternatively, you can contact one of the services below. Please note, response times vary according to services required.

St George Community Housing (SGCH)

If a person consents, SGCH provides assistance to connect them to available and appropriate services, such as social or affordable housing. You can contact SGCH by visiting its St Leonards office or by calling 1800 573 370.

Link2Home

This is a State Government service that provides information and urgent accommodation referrals for those without a safe or permanent place to stay. The Link2Home hotline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 1800 152 152.

If you are concerned with the immediate health, safety or wellbeing of a person or those around them please contact the police or ambulance by dialling 000.

Council acknowledges that homelessness is a growing concern and can impact the local community. 

Council acknowledges the rights of all community members to use public spaces, including people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, while also recognising the need to ensure we have a safe and peaceful community.

Council is guided by the Protocol for homeless people in public places, the Mental Health Act 2007 (NSW), and the Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021.

Some causes of homelessness include unemployment, affordable housing shortage, sexual abuse, financial difficulty, mental illness, addiction, or social isolation. Domestic violence is the biggest cause of homelessness is Australia.
