Everyone is welcome to hear our guest speaker Kyra Geddes talk on her book "The Story Thief". Kyra was inspired by Henry Lawson’s story, ‘The Drover’s Wife’, and the painting by Russell Drysdale.
The book was inspired by Henry Lawson’s classic Australian story, ‘The Drover’s Wife’, and its twin painting by Russell Drysdale, “The Story Thief” was described by the Sydney Morning Herald as 'a family saga which doubles as a feminist reimagining of Australian history and literature’.
Spanning the years 1900-1954, and underpinned by substantial research, the novel showcases numerous iconic settings throughout the North Shore and Greater Sydney, such as Sydney University, Waverley Cemetery and the QVB, including walking in the steps of Henry Lawson himself in North Sydney.
Come along to hear more about why Kyra Geddes describes The Story Thief as both her tribute to Henry Lawson and a feminist retelling of his most famous story.
