About the Society

The Tree Veneration Society Inc is a registered charity and transdisciplinary, contemporary eco-arts collective based in Sydney, dedicated to trees, their ecosystems, and human interactions with them. They aim to inspire their audience to respect the natural world and commit to protecting it. They do this by offering sensorial experiences with nature through intergenerational workshops, combining environmental education with art, and multidisciplinary exhibitions and events. Their collective commitment ensures they are a catalyst for change. They draw on the power of nature and art to transcend culture and language barriers, to pull diverse communities together, and facilitate inclusivity.  They create space for reflection, conversation and action.  You can follow the Society on Instagram: @treevenerationsociety

About the Artist

An artwork depicting a tree and bushy surroundsDiane Mah is the first TVS artist in-residence at the Coal Loader. She has been producing plein air works (art created outdoors) in watercolour, oil painting and mixed media for many years. Whether it be natural landscape or urban environment, she is interested in expressiang the sense of place, the time, season and context of the image on which she is working.

Her work for the Coal Loader Residency, entitled “The Postcard Project” will be a series of plein air works on site depicting the diversity of this area in terms of the built environment, flora, the community garden and its setting, and vistas of the harbour. These depictions are intended to speak to the cultural and natural heritage integrity of the site. These postcards will be displayed as a montage for viewing by the public over the period of the residency. An artwork by Diane is shown (right).
