Visiting the Heritage Centre

The North Sydney Heritage Centre documents the social and cultural heritage of the local area, with a focus on the built environment.

The Centre provides primary and secondary material for a range of historical research, including family histories, house histories and heritage reports. Some of this material is also available online in our digital collections.

The Heritage Centre contains:

  • local studies
  • oral history collections
  • council and community archives
  • an exhibition space

The North Sydney Heritage Centre is located on Level 1 at Stanton Library.

Fees and charges

Fees and charges apply to research enquiries lodged with library staff in person, by mail, email or telephone.

The amount charged is based on how long it takes us to do the necessary research and prepare a response. If an answer can’t be supplied on the spot in less than one hour, clients will be charged the following fees (calculated to nearest hour):

  • $28 per hour for individuals (20-day turnaround)
  • $45 per hour for firms or consultants (10-day turnaround)

Members of the public conducting their own research who request some assistance from desk staff will not be charged.
