Plant trees and protect habitat on National Tree Day

Celebrate National Tree Day by getting hands-on with nature at our annual community planting event on Sunday 27 July at Hamilton Reserve, Cammeray.

This year’s planting will help to expand and rehabilitate the bushland adjoining Tunks Park, North Sydney’s most species-diverse piece of remnant bushland. Volunteers will create vital habitat for native wildlife, including Powerful Owls, Long-nosed Bandicoots and towering gum trees.

Mayor Zoë Baker says: “National Tree Day is a fantastic opportunity for families to connect with nature, contribute to the regeneration of our local bushland, and create lasting memories. It’s a great first step into environmental volunteering for children – families can return year after year to see the trees they planted grow alongside their children.”

Part of Planet Ark’s National Tree Day, Australia’s largest community tree planting initiative, this event draws around 90 enthusiastic volunteers in North Sydney each year. Many of them are young families eager to make a difference.

All tools, plants and expert guidance will be provided by Council’s Bushland team. Volunteers will be rewarded with a free BBQ sausage sizzle to celebrate their efforts.
