Let's talk... Building a Stronger Future Together

White text on green background that reads 'let's talk... services and infrastructure'

Every day, 72,900 residents and 15,000 businesses rely on over 200 Council-managed services and $1.6 billion in assets and infrastructure.

From Bushcare to youth programs, street sweeping to Stanton Library, graffiti removal to local events – Council supports our community in countless ways.

Council maintains roads, footpaths, parks, playgrounds, buildings, seawalls, stormwater systems and more. These assets are more than just concrete and steel – they connect our community, support active lifestyles, and protect our environment.

But maintaining these services and infrastructure assets comes at a cost. And our current financial situation means we must make some tough choices.

Without increased investment, many everyday services and facilities will continue to decline.

  • Waiting for the bus might mean standing in the rain or feeling unsafe at night if shelters and seating aren’t upgraded.

  • Attending a local event or exhibition could become a rare treat if arts, culture, and community events are reduced. Driving around town could take longer and feel less safe if roads and traffic signs continue to wear out.

  • Walking with a pram or using a mobility aid becomes harder when footpaths crack and age.

  • Taking the kids to the park or joining a local sports team might not be as enjoyable, or even possible, if play equipment and sports fields aren’t renewed and maintained.

  • Calling Council might mean longer wait times or fewer answers if customer service hours are reduced.

  • Joining a local group or accessing support might become harder if community services and programs are reduced – impacting wellbeing, inclusion, and connection.

  • Strolling down the street might not be as pleasant if street cleaning is reduced and litter builds up.

  • Taking pride in your neighbourhood could fade if verge mowing, graffiti removal and park maintenance are scaled back – affecting how our public spaces look and feel.

  • Heavy rain might mean flooding in your street or damage to the environment if our stormwater systems aren’t improved.

So, let’s talk. Tell us what matters most to you. What should be reduced, maintained or improved?
