Council Meeting Summary, 8 September 2025

Council chambers

Council met on Monday 8 September 2025 to consider a range of community, infrastructure, and planning matters. Here’s what was decided:

Reports to Council

10.1 Park Lighting and Utilisation – Response to Council Resolution

Council reviewed lighting across parks, reserves, and sports fields. An audit identified several previously unreported faults, which have since been addressed. Council resolved to maintain current lighting schedules and not extend sports field lighting hours due to limited demand.

10.2 Community Transport – Comparative Councils Report

A review of North Sydney’s community transport services showed that Council has historically invested more than most neighbouring councils. To ensure long-term sustainability while continuing to support residents , Council endorsed a revised funding model. This includes  a $50,000 annual grant to Community Connect Transport, starting on a pro-rata basis from 1 January 2026. The revised model is expected to save  $134,000 annually without compromising essential services.

10.3 Councillor to join Consultative Panel

Councillor Santer was nominated to represent North Sydney on the Consultative Panel for the Sydney Coastal Councils Group and Outer Sydney Harbour Catchment Management Program (Stages 2 to 4). The panel supports regional collaboration on coastal and catchment planning.

10.4 Investment and Loan Borrowings Report as at 31 July 2025

The report confirmed that all investments and borrowings complied with Council’s policy and legislative requirements. No new borrowings were undertaken.

10.4 Young Street Plaza Upgrade – Tender Awarded

Council awarded the construction tender for the Young Street Plaza upgrade in Neutral Bay. This will deliver improved public space, pedestrian access, and enhanced landscaping, revitalising the local town centre.

Matters of Urgency

Mayoral and Councillor Taskforce Supporting People Seeking Asylum

Council joined the national Taskforce Supporting People Seeking Asylum and will promote the Back Your Neighbour campaign, advocating for fair treatment and access to essential services
