Small Watercraft Storage
Council is committed to providing opportunities for water-based recreation around the harbour foreshore (including easy access to the harbour for owners of small watercraft), and will therefore continue to permit storage of small watercraft in formally constructed facilities, while also permitting informal storage to occur in designated areas.

Small Watercraft Storage Strategy
Under North Sydney Council’s Small Watercraft Storage Strategy, a limited number of foreshore locations have been identified as potentially suitable for informal small watercraft storage, providing certain conditions (such as environmental protection and community safety) are able to be met. Council determines the acceptable number of watercrafts, placement and manner of storage for each designated informal small watercraft storage area. Only watercraft that have been authorised by Council in writing and issued with a valid permit sticker are permitted to be stored in these areas. Non-authorised watercraft will be seized and removed by Council under the Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021.
In accordance with the Small Watercraft Storage Strategy, authorised watercraft are defined as: A single-hulled watercraft; typically, a dinghy, kayak, canoe or stand-up paddle board, up to 4.0m long. Double-hulled dinghies will be considered if under 4.0m long. Larger vessels alienate a comparatively large area of land from public use, are harder to store safely in vertical racks and have a greater visual impact. Storage of longer kayaks may only be available in a limited number of locations.
