Littering

Print version

Litter is not just an aesthetic problem, it has a broader environmental impact.

Individuals who litter can receive on-the-spot fines. These fines are increased if the littering is deemed to be aggravated, such as in the case of broken bottles, lit cigarettes or a syringe.

Littering from a vehicle, often while stopped at traffic lights, is a common offence and financial penalties can be imposed on the owner or driver of the vehicle.

To learn more about preventing littering, visit the Environmental Protection Authority website.
