Street lighting

Street lighting in the North Sydney Council local government area is installed and maintained by Ausgrid (formerly EnergyAustralia). However, Council pays the electricity and maintenance bills. Generally, requests for the installation or upgrade of street lighting are initiated by Council.

Ausgrid endeavours to repair street lighting faults as quickly as possible. Please note that some underground street lighting faults can take longer to repair. Ausgrid has introduced energy efficient street lighting as a standard default light and has also improved its maintenance regime to include:

• the systematic replacement of lamps in every streetlight on a regular basis as a pre-emptive measure
• the regular replacement of intelligent sensors that turn the lights on and off
• night time maintenance patrols on a regular basis
• the gradual transfer of power supply for streetlights to the more reliable low voltage network.
