The library is home to eight book groups of up to sixteen people who meet once a month.

The aim of the group is not necessarily to agree but to air opinions and engage in conversation with a little lively debate along the way.

  • Philosophy group

Join the monthly philosophy discussion group and meet others that are interested in philosophical ideas and conversation.

The philosophy discussion group is facilitated by a volunteer who plans the topics, provides reading material and helps steer the discussion. A different philosophical topic or idea will be discussed at each meeting over the course of a term (around five meetings).

This is a discussion group, so be prepared to join the conversation and share your ideas. The reading material is provided to expand your knowledge and understand the ideas being discussed. You don’t need to have done any philosophy study before coming along. You just need an interest in exploring and discussing concepts.

New members are welcomed into the group at the beginning of each term (twice per year).

Express your interest using the form below and a member of staff will get in touch with you when planning commences for the new intake.

  • Writers' group

Our writers' group meets monthly at Stanton Library to workshop and edit their stories, share experiences and challenge each other in a supportive environment.

The group is suitable for keen writers of fiction, non-fiction or poetry who are interested in developing their creative writing skills and offer support to other writers. Their first anthology, Pieces of North Shore, is a refreshingly candid selection of stories. The work depicts the quest of new arrivals to locate within a culture that appears daunting and unattainable. The group is currently working on their second anthology.
