Primrose Park Artists' Studios
These studios are set within beautiful Primrose Park reserve in Cremorne on the land of the Cammerayal People. Primrose Park spaces are best suited to visual arts practices including painting, drawing, printmaking, small sculpture, ceramics, textiles, new technologies and others.
Primrose Park Artists' Studio accommodates up to six (6) tenants across the upper and lower level. All studios have tiled and concrete floors with access to plenty of natural light.

Upper level:
- Accommodates up to four (4) tenants in a shared open plan space, where individual spaces are separated by fixed partitions
Lower level:
- Accommodate up to two (2) tenants in shared open plan space. The space would be suitable for an individual tenant or small creative collective or group. There are no space partitions on the lower level
Facilities include:
- Trestle tables, chairs, access to plenty of storage cupboards, wash up sinks
All other furniture/equipment is to be supplied by the tenant.
Shared facilities include:
- Small kitchenette (upper level)
- Gender neutral bathrooms (upper and lower level)
- Small lounge area (upper level)
- Professional gallery hanging system (upper level), professional gallery lighting
- Communal use of the courtyard of the lower level studios
Facilities do not include:
- Wi-fi, internet access, air conditioning
Access, parking, transport:
- The upper and lower level studios are not connected and entry is from two distinct areas. The upper level is wheelchair accessible
- There is a Council car park, however there are no designated spaces for studio artists. The car park accommodates visitors to the Arts Centre, studios, tennis courts and sporting fields. The centre is a 10-minute walk from Military Road where there are numerous bus stops.

Alfred Street Artists' Studios
Located in the heart of Milsons Point, Alfred Street Artists' Studios are steps from Milsons Point Station, cafes and the Sydney Harbour foreshore on the land of the Cammeraygal People. The Alfred Street studio complex comprises four (4) separate studio spaces on a single level, accessed via a single entrance. Alfred Street is wheelchair accessible.
Alfred Street studio spaces are suitable for a wide range of creative practices, including visual arts, writing, performance, digital media, design or cross-disciplinary projects. The facility is a former community centre with carpeted floors, a good amount of wall space and plenty of natural light.
Studio 1 can accommodate two (2) tenants. The total size of Studio 1 is 32.5m2. The room is divided by a fixed plywood partition, creating two (2) separate spaces.
Studio 2 accommodates one tenant. This smaller space (formerly an office) is 8.2m2, and would suit a practitioner making smaller scale work, working with computer based/digital practices, literature, curation etc.
The largest space, Studio 3 accommodates one (1) tenant that could be an individual tenant or small collective. The total usable space is approx 32m2. The studio is suitable for a wide range of creative practices with plenty of floor space for performance or working in larger formats. There is one brick wall and one plywood partition.
Facilities include trestle tables, chairs and small metal storage cabinets. All other furniture/equipment is to be supplied by the tenant.
Shared facilities:
- Three toilets (one accessible)
- Small clean-up space
- Basic tea and coffee making facilities, fridge and microwave
- Air conditioning is available in studios 1 and 3
Facilities do not include:
- Wi-fi or internet access

Coal Loader Artist's Studio
This unique workshop space is located within the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability in Waverton on the land of the Cammeraygal People. The Centre supports a wide range of environmental education resources, activities and programs, and is home to the Sydney Library of Things, the Fix-It Hub, regular markets, community gardens, bushcare nursery and learning spaces. The Coal Loader is a heritage-listed former industrial site, repurposed for public use. The site and surrounding parklands are located on the harbour foreshore close to Balls Head Reserve.
We are seeking a creative practitioner or creative collective to use the Coal Loader Artist Studio as a base for their practice, and to activate the space through public engagement, education, or participatory creative activities. Creative practitioners or collectives with an interest in one or more of the following are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Environmental or sustainability focused creative practices, bio-art, eco-art or science-based art practices, community or socially engaged art practices.
- Collaborative or participatory creative projects that invite community members to contribute, make, share or learn together.
- Process-based practices that focus on collective experience.
- Collaborative practices that involve working with local groups, volunteers, or community members as co-creators or participants.
- Creative projects that engage with the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability’s mission to promote sustainable living and environmental awareness.
- Creative projects that have the potential to leave a lasting benefit, such as new community knowledge, stronger local networks, or an idea that continues beyond the residency.
- Practitioners who are interested in working with site-based groups such as the Sydney Library of Things, Fix-It Hub, or sustainability educators.
What’s expected:
- A regular and visible presence on site throughout the 12 month residency.
- As well as using the space as a base for developing their own practice, the successful applicant will welcome regular community interaction (e.g. through open studios, making days, drop-in projects, talks, installations, co-creative processes, etc).
- Work respectfully within the existing site programs and community networks.
The studio space is approximately 4m × 4m, lockable, and partially enclosed within the row of outbuilding. While the studio would be suitable to a wide range of creative practices, there is no wash-up space inside the studio and the floors and walls are brick/concrete. Prospectiveapplicants must consider the suitability of the space to their creative practice before applying.
What Council provides:
- 12 months of rent-free studio space
- Budget for artist fees/material support for community-facing activations
- Support promoting of community facing activities via Council channels
- Assistance facilitating connections and introductions to relevant community groups
- Access to Council's structured professional development program
While we encourage ambitious and creative proposals, the following will not be supported:
- Proposals for permanent public art installations
- Proposals that do not have a strong arts or cultural focus
- Projects that charge a fee for community engagement activities
- Commercial or retail activities
Facilities include:

- Access to power
All other furniture/equipment is to be supplied by the tenant.
Facilities do not include:
- Heating or cooling
- Wi-fi or internet access
- Picture hanging rails or pin boards
- Wash-up space within the studios
Shared facilities:
- A public toilet is available next to the studio and is open 8am to 6pm, 7 days a week.
- There is one unisex accessible toilet, shower and baby change room located in the Genia McCaffery Centre open 8am to 6pm, 7 days a week.
- A communal kitchenette in the Genia McCaffery Centre, open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm (closed public holidays).
