Description

Mortlock Reserve sits on the Long Bay foreshore, just east of Tunks Park. This small but beautiful patch of bushland is named after the late Bryce Mortlock who together with family and neighbours protected the then Vernon Street Reserve until it was included in the Bushcare program in 1996.

The dominant vegetation community here is Angophora Foreshore Forest a haven for local wildlife including water dragons, King Parrots, brush turkeys and Eastern Whip Birds. Long-nosed Bandicoots were recorded here for the first time in 2013 after a long absence, a dividend of the volunteer’s ongoing bush regeneration work.

Mortlock Reserve is part of middle Harbour cluster of bushland reserves, an important wildlife corridor for North Sydney Council.

Come along and help protect our precious bushland reserves.
