Hear from some of the 2024 North Sydney Art Prize finalists as they discuss their work and process.

Artists Talks will run on Saturdays 18 and 25 May commencing 11am and meeting at the Mess Hall. The Artists Talks are free to attend and suitable for all ages.

The talks commence in the Mess Hall and we will then proceed down to the chambers and tunnels. The talks will run for approximately 1.5 hours.

Note: This is a partly outdoor event, so please wear a hat and sunscreen and wear comfortable shoes. Bring an umbrella if raining.

North Sydney Council's biennial art prize at the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability features over 90 Australian artists. Selected artworks respond to a curatorial theme addressing local and global concerns including sustainability, climate action, and consumer culture. The diverse selection includes printmaking, drawing, painting, photography, sculptures, textiles, new media, and site-specific installations displayed throughout the Centre’s unique post-industrial setting including the subterranean tunnels and chambers.

During the Art Prize, there is a wide range of activities for all ages, including:

  • free artist talks and tours
  • free drop-in art making activities for all ages
  • an education guide designed by FLENK collective – use the guided prompts throughout the site and learn more about the artists and artworks featured in the North Sydney Art Prize
  • free creative workshops
