Come along and enjoy a stitch and yarn around the dye pot

Join Juanita McLauchlan, Gamilaraay artist living on Wiradjuri country in Wagga Wagga and a finalist in this year’s North Sydney Art Prize for this hands on bush dyeing workshop. Participants will learn how to dye with native botanicals sourced from the local area and and also take home your own bracelet which we will stitch from prepared materials, and woollen sample of botanical bush dyes which you will do on the day.

The workshop is for people 16 years and over and perfect for anyone wanting to experience a different way of printing. No need prior experience required, just the desuer to nourish your creative side.

Bring an apron or wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little messy. All other materials provided.

About the 2024 North Sydney Art Prize

North Sydney Council's biennial art prize at the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability features over 90 Australian artists. Selected artworks respond to a curatorial theme addressing local and global concerns including sustainability, climate action, and consumer culture. The diverse selection includes printmaking, drawing, painting, photography, sculptures, textiles, new media, and site-specific installations displayed throughout the Centre’s unique post-industrial setting including the subterranean tunnels and chambers.

During the Art Prize, there is a wide range of activities for all ages including

  • free artist talks and tours
  • free drop in art making activities for all ages
  • an education guide designed by FLENK collective. Use the guided prompts throughout the site and learn more about the artists and artworks featured in the North Sydney Art Prize
