Art prize

There is fun for the whole family at the Coal Loader for Sustainability in Waverton during the North Sydney Art Prize from 11 May to 2 June - where creativity meets sustainability.

Explore over 90 captivating artworks thoughtfully curated across the dynamic landscapes of the Coal Loader. From the hidden coal loading tunnels and chambers beneath to the stunning views of the harbour on the Platform, and surrounding parklands, each corner has been transformed into a vibrant art space.

You will find a broad range of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, new media and installation-based work. Delve into the theme of sustainability as artists explore the impacts of climate change and consumerism, inspiring visitors of all ages.

Children will have an opportunity to dive into the art world and all things sustainability through hands-on activities like Drop-in Creative Fun Sundays, where they can experiment with unconventional art materials and techniques.

Alongside the Art Prize, the Coal Loader is holding several public programs for the whole family, including a free eco playgroup, perfect for children aged 2 to 5. With sustainability workshops and meeting the Coal Loader chickens also on offer, there is something for everyone to discover and explore.

On Sunday 2 June, we’re wrapping up the Art Prize with one of Sydney’s best artisan markets, the Coal Loader Artisan Markets. Only held four times a year, you can meet the makers as you browse their art, ceramics, eco-products, basketry, jewellery and much more.

And don't worry about your caffeine fix – we've got you covered! A brand-new café has opened its doors at the Coal Loader, serving up a delightful selection of locally sourced brews and snacks. Nestled within the tranquil surroundings, From Silvia @ The Coal Loader provides the perfect spot to relax and rejuvenate after exploring the art and sustainability initiatives.
