External Cladding

External cladding elements are typically attached to the exterior of buildings to be decorative, weatherproofing or contributory to energy efficiency outcomes.

The cladding is usually non-loading bearing and considered to be light weight construction.

One of the most frequently used external cladding product is the Aluminum Composite Panel (ACP).

Due to recent world events in 2017, the usage of ACP in buildings have raised concerns regarding fire safety. Not all ACP products contributes towards fire safety concerns.

Compliant ACP products, as specified within the National Construction Code, assists in the inhibiting fire spread from one building to another.

However, non-compliant ACP products may be combustible in nature and may quicken the spread of fire.

North Sydney Council has taken this into account by prioritising Fire Safety reports that identifies non-compliant ACP external cladding. Council staff will liaise with Strata Proprietors regarding the most appropriate course of action, to liaise with Strata Proprietors regarding the most appropriate course of action, to be incorporated into the Fire Safety Upgrade program, required for the building.
