To apply for a current job vacancy within North Sydney Council, please prepare your application using the following guide and follow the links on our website for applying through our recruitment portal.

 

What to Include

Your application should include the following two documents:

  • your resume/CV
  • your cover letter

These documents will need to be saved as separate documents in either Word or PDF format and uploaded separately during the application process.

 

Resume and Referees

Your resume should be up-to-date and include your employment history, experience and education.

As part of your application, we also need the name and contact details of two referees. The referees should be people who have supervised you or have a working knowledge of your previous roles.

The Council will not contact these referees without getting your permission to do so.

 

Response to Selection Criteria

Each position at Council has a number of specific criteria that is necessary for employees to be able to perform the role. These criteria are contained in the essential criteria section of the position description and within the job advertisement.

Your application needs to include responses to the selection criteria, clearly demonstrating how your qualifications or experience help you to meet the requirements of the role.

Addressing the selection criteria is a crucial component of your job application, and you will be guided through the process of answering specific questions pertaining to these through the application process.

Other documents may be included as part of your application and can include the following:

  • copy of your qualifications
  • work samples – these may be included but due to size limitations it is best to bring these with you to the interview instead

Was my application received?

Upon submitting your application via the "apply" function, you will be re-directed to a confirmation page if your application has been registered successfully.

Will late applications be accepted?

The closing date appears in each advertisement and applications must be received by midnight on the closing date. Late applications will not be considered in the current round of interviews. If after conducting interviews, the position is not filled, then any late applications will be considered.

 

What should I wear to the interview?

Depending on the position, we suggest business attire or smart casual attire.

 

How long will the process take?

It depends on the role, how many people apply and how many are shortlisted. Usually, decisions regarding a preferred candidate are made within a couple of weeks of interview, but this is a case by case scenario. We aim to provide all candidates with expected time frames at the interview stage.

 

Who will see my application? Is it confidential?

Your application will be accessed by North Sydney Council employees on a need-to-know basis only.
