North Sydney Public Art Highlights
North Sydney has a strong collection of public artworks, many of which been developed in line with Council’s Public Art Policy. Under the Public Art Policy, Council has commissioned artists to design works that enhance, enliven and celebrate the environment with a strong focus on site specificity.
The Public Art Policy also serves as a guide for public art in private development ensuring high quality outcomes are achieved. With the growth of the CBD, Council is guiding more and more public art initiatives in the private sector with a number of innovative and contemporary public art commissions being delivered over the past two years.
There is also a growing interest in temporary public art across the local government area such as murals, laneway activations and new media artforms. These encourage creative options in unique places for artists, whilst building an inclusive and sophisticated society and generate a culture of innovation.
Below is a selection of public art commissions by both Council and the private sector which have transformed the urban landscape to create a diverse and engaging urban and city environment.
